OpenBuildings™ Station Designer Help

Place a Route using Duct/Pipe

  1. Select a place routing component tool;

    Building Design > Mechanical > Place Mechanical Systems > Duct

    or

    Building Design > Mechanical > Place Plumbing Systems > Pipe

    A small segment of duct/pipe appears on the pointer, and the Place Component tool settings dialog appears along with Placement options on ribbon.

  2. (Optional) Change the active part definition to one that is suitable for the route from Family/Part Toolbar .
  3. On the Placement settings, set the justification, say to the center-center position.

    You can place the route to a desired justification, and for a given catalog.

  4. Data point to locate the route start point.

    The free end of the new duct is dynamically attached to the pointer.

  5. Select the end point/next point for the new duct.
  6. Change the route's direction by selecting another point that is not inline with the previously selected points.

    The tool automatically places an elbow joining the last segments placed.

    Tip: If the route changes direction and size, an elbow and transition combination is automatically placed to connect the changing route. If the shape is round (duct only), a coupling fitting is added.
    The end caps (EC) are added automatically during 3D duct/pipe placement, and retained at open terminal of the route. During auto routing, the fittings added in the route (like elbow, tee, takeoff etc.) follow and adjust their end types accordingly; e.g if the duct end type is flanged, then the EC is also flanged, and if duct end type is male/female/plain, then the EC is plain end type. When a component/ equipment is attached to the duct end, the existing EC gets removed and replaced by the attached component.
  7. Reset to complete.
    Note: Mechanical discipline AccuDraw Shortcuts are available for use with the placement tools to enhance design precision and productivity.
